German Certification – Goethe

The Goethe-Zertifikat is a certification of knowledge of the German language developed by the Goethe-Institut which provides different degrees and specific denominations that vary according to the language skills achieved. These competences are defined in accordance with the six levels established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR), from the A1 for beginners to C2 attesting to the highest level of knowledge of a foreign language.

Course duration

About 15 months
Being a collective course, it will not be possible to alter the schedule of the lessons; the recovery of a missed lessons will not be provided.

A1

Beginner

You can understand and use familiar and everyday expressions and formulate very simple sentences in areas of immediate need. You can introduce yourself and others, ask simple questions, such as where they live, who they know, what they own, and answer similar questions. You can communicate in a simple way and follow speech that is slow and carefully articulated.

A2

Elementary

You are able to understand frequently used sentences and expressions, related to areas of immediate relevance (for example, information about the person and the family, shopping, work and the surrounding environment). You are able to manage simple routine conversations, concerning a direct exchange of information on familiar topics. You can give simple descriptions of your own origin and background, the surrounding environment and objects correlated to immediate needs.

B1

Intermediate

You can understand the essential elements of a standard conversation concerning common issues such as work, school, leisure, etc. You can handle most of the situations you may encounter on a trip abroad. You can express yourself in a simple and coherent way with regards to familiar and personal topics. You can report on experiences and events, describe dreams, hopes and ambitions as well as provide brief motivations or explanations about projects and opinions.

B2

Upper intermediate

You can grasp the main points of information in complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics; you can also understand technical conversations in your field of ​​specialization. You can express yourself spontaneously and fluently and handle a normal conversation with native speakers, without imposing strain on either party. You can express your opinion clearly and in detail about a wide range of topics, explain your point of view and indicate the advantages and disadvantages of different options.

C1

Advanced level

You can understand a wide range of long and demanding texts, and recognise implicit meaning. You can express yourself spontaneously and fluently, without much obvious searching for the right words. You can use the language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. You can produce clear, well-structured, detailed texts on complex subjects, linking the various statements appropriately and in a variety of styles.

C2

Proficiency

You can understand almost everything you read or hear without difficulty. You can summarise information from different spoken and written sources and to illustrate coherently the reasons and explanations. You can express yourself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in complex situations.
